7 cm Male: Glossy gold-tinged emerald-green; white-barred from
lower breast to vent, dark-tipped yellowish bill. Female:
Plain rufous crown/nape, coppery-green above, all-barred
below. Juvenile: Less green above than female, with rufous
feather-tips and dark and buff bars on crown to mantle, dark tail
with more rufous/no white on outer feathers and less white at tip;
darker bill, rufous throat/breast-wash. VOICE Loud, descending
3–4 note kee-kee-kee.. (male). Sharp chweek or chutweek in flight. HABITAT Broadleaved evergreen forest, plantations and gardens on passage/in winter; up to 2,440 m (breeds
