PIN-STRIPED TIT BABBLER

 12.5–14 cm Adultsulphureus: Rufous crown, yellow supercilium, narrow throat/breast-streaks.Juvenile: Plainer/paler.Adult chersonesophilus (c.12° to 5°N): Bolder throat/breast-streaks, darker/more chestnut above.Adultgularis(south of c.4°N): Bolder throat/breast-streaks, much darker (less contrasting) above. Other subspecies M.g.lutescens (east E Myanmar to northern Indochina): Brighter below. M.g.archipelagicus(Mergui Archipelago): More rufous-chestnut above, yellower below, bolder streaks. M.g.kinneari(C Annam), versuricola (east Cambodia, south Vietnam), connectens (south Tenasserim to Cambodia), inveteratus (SE Thailand/Cambodia islands): Roughly intermediate between sulphureus and gularis. M.g.condorensis (Con Dao Is, Cochinchina): Darker above than last group, like gularis below. M.g.ticehursti (SW,W Myanmar); saraburiensis (south NE Thailand, west Cambodia). VOICE Song (northern Vietnam) is loud bouncing ti chut-chutut-chut or tit-chutut-chututchutut..; or (C Annam and Thailand) even chut-chut-chutchut-chut... Harsh chrrrt-chrrand tititit-chrreeoo etc. HABITAT Open broadleaved forest, mangroves, secondary growth, thickets, bamboo; up to 1,525 m. RANGE Co R (except C Thailand).
