RED-NAPED TROGON

31.5–34.5 cm Male kasumba: Like Diard’s but crown all black, has broad
red nuchal patch meeting broad cobalt-blue facial skin, well demarcated narrow white breast-band, dull golden-buffish
upperparts, usually redder underparts and unmarked white on
undertail. Female: Brownish-buff lower breast to vent,
unmarked white on under tail. Juvenile: Similar to female;
males soon attain patches of adult plumage. VOICE Male territorial call is subdued but rather harsh, evenly pitched, 3–6 note
kau kau kau kau.., lower/more spaced than Diard’s.
Female gives quiet whirring rattle. HABITAT Broadleaved evergreen and freshwater swamp forest, bamboo; up to 550 m.
