BLACK-NAPED ORIOLE

24.5–27.5 cm Male diffusus: Large; golden-yellow body/coverts, broad black band from lores to nape. Black-and-yellow remainder of wing, thick fleshy-orange bill Female: Mostly olive-yellow upperparts/coverts.Juvenile: Much duller than female, no head-band, yellow head-sides with faint eyestripe, creamy/yellowish-white below with thin blackish streaks, yellow flankwash and vent, mostly yellowish-green wings, mostly blackish bill. From Slender-billed mainly by thicker/shorter bill. Immature: Gradually attains head-band. Other subspecies O.c.maculatus (west Pen Malaysia, Singapore). VOICE Sings with loud fluty kwia-lu; u-dli-u; and u-liu etc. Harsh rasping, nasal kye hhr call. HABITAT Open broadleaved forest, parks, gardens, plantations, mangroves; up to 1,525 m. RANGE Un/co R SW Myanmar, extreme S Thailand, Pen Malaysia, Singapore. Un BV N Laos, ? NE Thailand. Fc/co WV (except SW,W,N Myanmar, Singapore, W,E Tonkin, N Annam). Fc PM W,E Tonkin.
