 12.5–16 cm Male prasina: Green above, blue face/throat, warm buff below, bright red lower rump to long pointed tail. Often a pale red belly-patch and pale bluish breast-wash.Female: Much shorter tail, often pale powder-blue on head-side but no blue face, washed-out buffish below.Juvenile: As female but lower rump to tail orange-/brownish-red, lower mandible mostly yellowish/ pinkish. VOICE Less musical song than Tawny-breasted, more clinking/chirping notes. High zit, tseet-tseet or tsit-tsit and sharp teger-teter-terge calls. HABITAT & BEHAVIOUR Bamboo, open forest, secondary growth; up to 1,500 m. Semi-nomadic, depending on seeding bamboo. RANGE Sc/lc R(unpredictable movements) Tenasserim, Thailand (except C), Pen Malaysia, east Cambodia, N,C Laos, C,S Annam, north Cochinchina.
