11–12 cm Male cineraceus: Rufous face, dark grey throat, breast and flanks. Female: Mostly whitish centre of underparts.Juvenile: Browner above without rufous, like washed-out female below. VOICE Song is repetitive chip-wii-chip chipwii-chip.. (chip brief, wii stressed) and chu-iip chu-iip chu-iip (iip stressed) etc. Calls with spluttering trilled prrrrt, rolling prii’u and harsh thieu notes etc. HABITAT Mangroves, coastal scrub, peatswamp forest, rarely inland forest; also all habitats on certain offshore islands.
