18–20.5 cm Adult: Blackish head with buff crown-sides/supercilium and white throat, plain buff below with red vent. Juvenile: Duller; scaled crown-sides/supercilium, whiter chin. VOICE Song is loud, taew-laew taew-laew (laew stressed). Harsh skyeew in alarm. HABITAT Relatively open broadleaved forests; also parks, gardens and mangroves on migration; up to 800 m.
