21–24 cm Male irena: Bright yellow to vivid orange-red supercilium to nape, blue-black breast/vent, white wing-band.Female: Whitish below with narrow dark bars; less orange-red on nape.Juvenile: Duller than female, dark brown breast with buff spots/streaks. VOICE Song is short pouw or poww. Sudden whirring kirrr or pprrr in alarm. HABITAT Broadleaved evergreen forest, secondary forest; up to 610 m. RANGE Un/lc R S Thailand, Pen Malaysia
