13.5–15 cm Adult non-breeding: Attenuated shape, tail often projects slightly beyond wing-tips, relatively uniform cold greyish brown above, plain-looking, drab brownish-grey ear-coverts and breast (centre can be slightly paler), greenish-yellowish legs. Recalls miniature Common Sandpiper. In flight, white tail-sides.Adult breeding: More dull olive-brown above, with irregular blackish feather-centres and rufous fringes, headsides/breast washed brown, indistinct darker streaks on headsides and neck/breast.Juvenile: Like adult non-breeding but mantle/scapulars/coverts browner with narrow buff fringes and blackish subterminal markings, head-sides/breast washed buffish. VOICE Rapid stuttering tirrr (often repeated) or longer tirrr’r’r or trrrrrit in flight. HABITAT Muddy freshwater wetlands, rice paddies, large rivers, saltpans, prawn ponds, rarely mudflats; up to 450 m. RANGE Sc/lc WV (except W Myanmar, W Tonkin, N,S Annam). Also PM C Myanmar, E Tonkin.
