13.5–14.5 cm Male cyane: All blue above, white below, black-bordered
throat/breast. Female: Greyish-brown above, often dull
blue on rump/uppertail-coverts (sometimes tail), variably
mottled/scaled throat-sides/breast, distinctly pinkish legs.First-winter female: Like adult but rufous-buff-tipped outer
greater coverts, often no blue above. First-winter male: Like
female but dull blue rump to uppertail, usually some blue on
scapulars/coverts (sometimes most of upperparts/coverts).
Other subspecies L.c.bochaiensis (rc Indochina?). VOICE
Song is a loud, rapid, rather explosive tri-tri-tri-tri, tjureetiu-tiu-tiu-tiu etc., usually introduced by spaced sit notes.
Calls with a low hard tuk, tak or dak and louder se-ic. HABITAT & BEHAVIOUR Broadleaved forest, secondary growth, bamboo; parks, gardens and mangroves etc. on migration; up to
1,830 m (mainly below 900 m). Skulks on or near ground, quivers tail. RANGE Fc WV (except N Myanmar, Cambodia). Also PM
