16–16.5 cm Adult brodiei: Very small; buff and blackish imitation face
on nape, speckled crown, streaked belly, no obvious white on
coverts. Adult rufous morph (rc northern Vietnam at least):
Very rufous, except for white of eyebrows/underparts. Juvenile:
Crown to mantle unmarked, but whitish streaks on forecrown.
VOICE Loud, rhythmic, hollow, piping pho pho-pho pho (often
in daytime). HABITAT Broadleaved evergreen forest; up to
3,100 m (mostly above 400 m). RANGE Fc/co R (except SW
Myanmar, C Thailand, Singapore, Cochinchina).
