15 cm Male breeding angelorum: Yellow crown, plain buffishbrown breast.Male non-breeding/female: Rather plain
head-sides, quite plain warm brown breast, sometimes faintly
dark-streaked at sides (no obvious streaks); whitish throat and
vent.Juvenile: Like female but breast and flanks rather
deeper buff, crown-streaking broader and more broken.Male breeding infortunatus (south of c.12°N; ? C Annam,
Cochinchina): More rufescent base-colour above, darker/more
rufescent breast/flanks. Other subspecies P.p.burmanicus
(Myanmar, except Tenasserim). VOICE Sings with chattering
notes, then wheezy cher-wiu. Harsh chit notes. HABITAT Cultivation, grassland, open areas, secondary growth; up to 1,220 m.
